Favourite Friday – the September 16th issue

L-A: I apologize. Imma going to phone this one in (or at least it feels like I am). As I write this, I’m getting ready to go to Girl Talk/just home from. And I’m pretty stoked about that. Although, it means there will be a Friday Hates happening.

Hates

1. Shows starting after 11:30 p.m. on a weeknight

Bitches, what? You concert promoters are charging me $40 (because I bought my ticket late) to be going out of the house at a time that is normally reserved for pajama pants and the latest TV show meant for teenagers. Instead, you’ve changed around times and venues and I’m not cool with that. Not at all. Some of us have day jobs and like concerts. Can we maybe get things started a bit earlier than a quarter to midnight? Even if it’s only to keep my co-workers from looking at me like I’ve lost my mind when I tell them I’m going out for a midnight show.

2. My hearing is clearly going downhill

Here’s the thing: when I first started going to concerts, I thought it was an awesome idea to get as close to the stage as possible. And not wear earplugs. This is kind of biting me in the ass. Now, I can hear the music fine, but if someone talks to me? This is what I hear:

I really need to start wearing earplugs.

3. Fog + my hair = sad trombones

I did my hair this morning and got it looking pretty good, in spite of the recent troubles, and headed on over to PR skool to try and recruit this year’s class to IABC. By the time I get there, the fog and humidity have turned it into a flat, limp, weirdly half curled mess. As soon as I got to work, I had to fix it with the LC braid, but the damage was already done. I’m the guest speaker with the bad hair.

Favourites:

1. Girl Talk

For all my bitching and whining, it was a good time. Drunk kids in the all ages section were kind of hilarious. Also, I had no idea that sheer lace tops with coloured bras were so popular! I sort of wish I got the memo. My jeans and t-shirt looked downright sloppy. If it wasn’t creepy for me to take stealth pictures of the outfits, I’d have gotten some for you.

One thing I did learn at this concert: I need confetti canons in my life.

I’ll wear bright coloured party dresses and they can follow me around and just shoot off confetti whenever I need it most. Bad day at work? Confetti! Good day at work? Confetti! It’ll be like I’m living in a Kate Spade ad.

2. I’m making that tattoo appointment today

I’ve had some busy weeks at work and with non-work stuff and a few weekends out of town, but this is it folks. The ampersand, she is happening for my Big Day Downtown.

3. I am finally getting to wear my new Cookie jeans!

I’m not super tall, but tall enough that I’ve never really had to worry about hemming jeans. This is the only downside to the Cookie jeans: they are absurdly long. I can’t even try to pull that off without hemming. But the problem is, hemming/dry cleaning are so low on my list of things to do, that I never get around to doing them. And I live next door to a tailor/dry cleaner (although, that is partly due to the fact that I don’t seem to get home in time to drop things off). It’s because of this I avoid buying things that require tailoring.

4. I want/need one of these bracelets from Love, Me Boutique:

I feel like it would really work with the friendship bracelet thing I’ve got going on.

5. I kind of love Advanced Style.

Favourite Friday – the September 16th issue

I’ve been kind of not into street style blogs lately. Maybe I’m all Sartorialised out. But this one is pretty great – I love that the focus is on the super stylish older ladies. I want that kind of style when I grow up. And I might even want to rock a turban now (need to bring that back).

6. Birthdays!

Some birthday shout-outs (belated and not) to Victoria – make up artist, designer and generally awesome person – and Lauren, our fabulous Oscar Party co-host/organizer and also a generally awesome person. Happy birthday ladies!

Any excuse to share that song with the world. You can thank me later for that.
