February Traffic Unit Theme-Buckle Up!

In its continued effort to address road safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, the HRP/RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit is concentrating this month on seatbelt and child safety seat enforcement.

Members of the Unit will be watching closely for seatbelt infractions during the month.

It is well documented that seatbelts save lives and their use has been mandatory for drivers and passengers in Nova Scotia for many years.

Young children must be secured in an infant, child, or booster seat (depending on their size) until they reach a height of 145 cm (4′9″).

A seatbelt infraction carries a fine of $164.50.

Also, we are all aware that winter in Nova Scotia often produces challenging driving conditions. The HRM Traffic Unit reminds motorists to adjust their driving to conditions as necessary.

When road conditions deteriorate: slow down!

The unit’s focus in January was monitoring intersections and crosswalks throughout the region. In excess of 1,350 tickets were written during the month for a variety of violations.
