Local Filmmakers doing well in LA. In the last ten days local filmmaking talent has done well in LA.
Director Dillon Garland picked up Best Music Video Award in the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. He also picked up Best Music Video Award at the Music Nova Scotia Awards. Watch out for River Point films in the future.
If that wasn’t enough there was big news for two first time filmmakers. Producer Erin Poirier and Writer/Director Elizabeth Lively from Halifax (Lower Sackville). Their short film “A Taste of Fate” has been nominated for the prestigious Taste Awards in Los Angeles! Their journey wasn’t easy – they went through AFCOOP’s Film Five but didn’t make it through to the final funding stages, but they successfully crowd-funded the film and made it happen!
After not being accepted into two local festivals, they were feeling discouraged – but the Taste Award nomination has changed everything! The Taste Awards celebrates the year’s best in Food, Fashion, and Lifestyle programs on Television, in Film, Online, and Radio – so for first time filmmakers from Halifax to be nominated – it is a big deal!
It’s a viewer’s choice award so they need votes! You can help them get to Hollywood and walk the red carpet! They’re up against 7 other films in their category, but only one film will be awarded at the event in Hollywood this January.
