Creating Balance in an Unbalanced World: an eARTh-based expressive workshop is for parents, caregivers, activists, helpers, healers and educators. Have you been caring and doing too much for too long? Are you missing your zest for life? Do you feel more short-tempered, more easily frustrated, more distracted, more resentful then usual? Join us on a journey to create balance in an unbalanced world.

Individual sessions are $100, or all 4 for $350. June 13: Air: Take a Breath of Fresh Air; June 20: Fire: Rekindle Your Passion For Life; July 18: Water: Flow with the Currents of Change; August 15: Earth: Reach Out to All Our Relations. Sharkey's and Engle Art Studio in Bedford are teaming up to offer Saturday Art Classes, Summmer Art Classes and Summer Mini Workshops for children six years old and up. The next session of the Saturday Art Classes runs from June 27 to August 1, from 9:30-10:45am. Cost is $150 plus tax and includes all supplies. With their Summer Art Classes, your child will learn drawing and painting skills in a fun and relaxing environment. Their Summer Mini Workshops will run on Monday and Tuesday for the month of June, July and August and will start June 29th/30th and end August 24/25th. Join The Nova Scotia Doula Association for an afternoon of networking and motivational engagement at their annual fundraiser on Sunday, May 31 from 1-4pm at The Halifax Club on Hollis Street. Barb Stegemann, local author and motivational speaker, will be sharing key points from her recent book, The 7 Virtues of a Philosopher Queen: A woman's guide  to living and leading in an illogical world.

Nurtured Products for Parenting
runs free cloth diapering workshops and babywearing workshops every month, with the cloth diaper workshops usually happening the second Thursday of the month at 6:30pm, and the babywearing workshops on the third Thursday at 6:30pm. The workshops take place at Nurtured's new store at 2571 Robie Street in Halifax. To register or for more information, click here.

Environmental Interpretation: Sharing Nature with Children & Youth teaches fun and engaging activities for use with children and youth to give them joyful and profound experiences of nature. This session is offered through the Nova Scotia Outdoor Leadership Development Program and will take place on Saturday June 20 from 9:30am-5pm at Fleming Park, Halifax. Cost is $30. Register at

The next family yoga class with Lara Morris is coming up on Sunday, May 24 from 10-10:45am at Bloomfield Centre (2786 Agricola Street, at Almon). The theme for the week is a walk in the woods – who and what do you see when you get into nature? Children aged 3-5 years and a caregiver are welcome! Dress in comfortable clothing and bring your own mats (including one for your child if possible). The fee is $12 per child (including caregiver). Come one, come all to a Teddy Bears' Picnic in memory of Olivia Weir and in support of the Canadian Liver Foundation at 1:30pm on Sunday June 14 at Sir Sanford Fleming Park – The Dingle – in Halifax. Bring your favourite teddy bear – or any stuffed animal if you wish – and enjoy an afternoon of games, music, a tea party, a Teddy Bear Hospital and more! The picnic will be followed by the Olivia Weir Memorial Teddy Bear Walk from 3:30-4:00pm.

Bedford-Birch Cove MLA Len Goucher (PC) held a 'Strawberry Sunday' at his election headquarters on Sunday. During the campaign event, voters got to meet Goucher while enjoying some strawberry shortcake. Goucher is seeking re-election in the provincial election on June 9, 2009.
