Fire and vandalism at Meteghan business results in charges

Meteghan RCMP has charged a man in relation to a break and enter at a local business.

On May 21, at approximately 5:30 a.m., Meteghan RCMP and fire services responded to a report of a break and enter and fire at a local business.

Upon arrival, the responding officer learned that an employee had arrived at the business and noted broken windows at the front of the building. Upon entering the building, they noticed smoke and that a table was on fire. A lit torch was left under the table. The employee was able to shut off the torch and extinguish the fire. No one else was observed inside the building at the time and no one was injured in the incident.

Further damage to the business, two outbuildings on the property, and a vehicle in the parking lot was noted.

Through the investigation, Meteghan RCMP identified a suspect who was safely arrested at a residence in Grosse Coques at approximately  2 p.m. the same day.

Rheal Paul Martin, 27, of Church Point, has been charged with Mischief (two counts) and Arson. Rheal was held in custody and appeared in Digby Provincial Court on May 23.
