29, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency (HRFE) personnel will be busy on Sunday in the Harrietsfield area as they conduct water shuttle testing.
Water shuttle testing is an exercise in which firefighters practise transporting large amounts of water from a large water source to a designated location, simulating what it would be like to continuously shuttle enormous quantities of water from a lake or pond to a fire emergency.
In this case, HRFE firefighters will use the Grand Lake in the Harrietsfield area as the main water source, and they will transport the water via several fire trucks to the Williamswood baseball field. The fire trucks will be operating on municipal and provincial roadways during the exercise and will at times have lights and sirens activated.
The exercise will take place on Sunday between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Motorists and pedestrians are asked to take extra precautions during this time period.
