The following is a provincial fire update for Friday, Aug. 12, at 8 p.m.
— there are no significant changes to the fires in western Nova Scotia from the 4 p.m. update
— the fire at Perch Lake, Pictou Co., remains 100 per cent contained and is now being patrolled for hot spots
— the five person crew from Prince Edward Island, which arrived this afternoon, and an additional four Department of Natural Resources firefighters, have been fighting fires where needed
— despite rain in some parts of the province, conditions continue to be extremely dry. Travel restrictions and a burn ban are in effect across Nova Scotia and people are asked to continue to avoid any activity that could potentially cause more fires
