Following is a provincial fire update for Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 9 a.m.
— due to the lack of rainfall extreme fire activity can be expected today, with winds gusting to 40 km/hr out of the southwest, and sustained winds of 15-20 km/hr
— these weather conditions will continue to cause challenges with fire suppression
— Trunk 8 near Maitland Bridge, Annapolis Co., remains closed
— the fire at Seven Mile Lake, Annapolis Co., is 15 per cent contained but has grown to 350 hectares. Crews will be focused on building guards and reinforcing lines
— the fire in Ten Mile Lake, Queens Co. is not yet contained and is 10 hectares. Crews will be focused on building guards with heavy equipment
— the fire in Clyde River, Shelburne Co. is 70 per cent contained and is one hectare
— the fire at Perch Lake, Pictou Co., is contained at 10 hectares
— the fire in West Dalhousie, Annapolis Co., is contained at two hectares and under control
— the fire at Maitland Bridge, Annapolis Co., is contained at 21 hectares. Crews continue to reinforce the perimeter line
— the fire at Greenfield, Queens Co., is contained and under control at five hectares
— the fire at Collingwood, Cumberland Co., is no longer burning
— sustained winds will continue to blow out of the northwest
— a 20 person firefighter team is expected to arrive from New Brunswick today to help where needed
— as of Aug. 9, travel and activities within the woods are restricted. People can still access beaches and provincial parks, but trail systems are restricted and the fire ban remains in effect
