Fishing accident claims one life, Sheet Harbour, N.S.

Sheet Harbour RCMP are investigating a fishing accident that claimed the life of a 76-year-old man from Sheet Harbour.

At 5:30 p.m., Sheet Harbour RCMP, Fire Dept, EHS, and local residents responded to a call of a man falling off the Sober Island Bridge.

Preliminary investigation determined that the man had been fishing off the bridge when his line got snagged. When the victim tried to free his line, he slipped and fell off the bridge. His body was located approximately 30 minutes later by local boaters. EHS provided medical assistance at the scene but the victim had succumbed to his injuries.

The RCMP and Medical Examiner’s Office are still investigating the incident.
