Forcible confinement, assault by choking charges against man

RCMP release:

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has charged a man with multiple offences, including Assault with a Weapon and Assault by Choking, after an incident in Lower Sackville.

On August 18 at approximately 2:25 p.m., police responded to a report of a serious assault that had occurred the night before at a residence on Boxwood Cres. Officers learned that a woman was forcibly confined and assaulted by a man known to her before she was able to escape to a safe location. The man, who is believed to have had access to multiple firearms, then barricaded himself inside the home.

On August 19 at approximately 12:36 a.m., the man was safely arrested with assistance of the RCMP Emergency Response Team and crisis negotiator.

Zeth Brooks, 44, of Lower Sackville, has been charged with:

  • Assault With a Weapon
  • Assault by Choking
  • Assault
  • Forcible Confinement (two counts)
  • Uttering Threats (two counts)
  • Sexual Assault

Brooks was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on August 19.

The RCMP/Halifax Regional Police Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is now leading the investigation, which is ongoing.
