Four people charged in relation to drug searches

Police have charged four people after conducting searches at five different locations in the Halifax-area yesterday.

Following a six-month investigation, investigators from the Integrated Guns and Gangs Unit along with members of the Integrated Drug Unit, Integrated Support Operations and members of RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit executed Controlled Drugs and Substance Act Search Warrants at addresses in the 200 block of Spring Avenue, 100 block of Micmac Boulevard and 400 block of Portland Hills Drive in Dartmouth; the 200 block of Walter Havill Drive in Halifax; and the 0-100 block of Charlotte Drive in Bedford.

Investigators seized close to a kilogram of cocaine, over $400,000, a handgun and drug paraphernalia. Two men and two women face the following charges:

38-year-old Brandy Sparks of Dartmouth

  • possession of property obtained by crime contrary to section 355.4 of the Criminal Code
  • money laundering contrary to section 462.31(1) of the Criminal Code

36-year-old Nathanial Sparks of Halifax

  • possession of property obtained by crime contrary to section 355.4 of the Criminal Code
  • money laundering contrary to section 462.31(1) of the Criminal Code
  • possession for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

36-year-old Jerrelle Johnston of Dartmouth

  • possession for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • careless storage of a firearm contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code
  • unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code
  • possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized contrary to section 92(1) of the Criminal Code
  • possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm with ammunition contrary to section 95 of the Criminal Code

36-year-old Merissa Herring of Halifax

  • possession for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled drugs and Substances Act

Nathanial Sparks, Jerrelle Johnston and Merissa Herring were held to appear in court this morning and Brandy Sparks was released on appearance notice to appear in Dartmouth Court on August 28, 2018
