HRM release:
The Halifax Regional Municipality is announcing that the Student Transit Pass Program will continue for the 2026/27 school year.
Eligible students in grades 7 through 12 will receive a free annual transit pass for the 2026/27 school year, providing unlimited travel on all Halifax Transit services, including bus, Access-A-Bus and ferry. Passes are valid from Sept. 1, 2026, to Aug. 31, 2027. Passes for students currently enrolled in the program will be extended until Sept. 11, 2026 to ensure uninterrupted access to transit while the new 2026/27 passes are distributed.
New this year, the Student Transit Pass will be delivered through Halifax Transit’s mobile fare payment app, HFXGO. Students at participating schools will receive instructions through their student email account on how to obtain a pass for the upcoming school year. Physical passes will be available upon request.
For the 2026/27 school year, the Halifax Regional Centre for Education is funding transit passes for students attending five Halifax schools where public transit is more practical than school buses. The Nova Scotia Department of Opportunities and Social Development is funding transit passes for Halifax youth ages 13 through 18 connected to Employment Support and Income Assistance – more than 1,700 students. The Halifax Regional Municipality is funding transit passes for all remaining grades 7 through 12 students, including homeschooled students and those attending private schools.
