Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • Halifax Metro and Halifax County West

Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

Prolonged periods of freezing rain on Tuesday.

Locations: Nova Scotia

Time Span: Tuesday morning through to Tuesday evening.

Remarks: Periods of snow and ice pellets across the province tonight and early Tuesday, then changing to a prolonged period of ice pellets then freezing rain, before gradually changing to rain from southwest to northeast across the province on Tuesday.

Freezing rain warnings have been issued for all counties except Victoria and Inverness County – Mabou and north, but the warning could be extended to these counties in subsequent forecasts.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Prolonged freezing rain expected and significant rainfall possible Tuesday.

Total rainfall: 15-25mm.

4-8 hours of freezing rain.

Locations: Rainfall – southwest Nova Scotia, freezing rain – across the province.

Time span: Late Tuesday morning through to Tuesday night.

Remarks: Periods of snow and ice pellets across the province tonight and early Tuesday, then changing to a prolonged period of ice pellets then freezing rain, before gradually changing to rain from southwest to northeast across the province on Tuesday. Heavy downpours can cause water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Note that this situation may change and it will continue to be closely monitored as it approaches, in case warnings may be required.
