Friends of McNabs Island Society – Looking for volunteers for McNabs Island Beach Cleanup June 10th

Friends of McNabs Island Society –
Looking for volunteers for McNabs Island Beach Cleanup June 10th!

Our annual Beach Cleanup, scheduled for June 3rd, was  postponed due to high winds that kept the boats transporting
volunteers in port.

Our Beach Cleanup is now re-scheduled to SUNDAY JUNE 10th. We need
volunteers to help with this event, which is the largest and longest-running Beach Cleanup in the Maritimes. Since 1991, volunteers have collected nearly 13,000 bags of garbage and recyclables from the beaches of the ?green jewel? in Halifax Harbour.

Wrap up Oceans Week and Environment Week by picking up litter that
washes ashore on McNabs Island Provincial Park in Halifax Harbour!
Severe winter storms have brought more plastics, styrofoam and marine
debris onto the beaches of the provincial park and national historic site. Even parts of a raft or buoy from the Maltese-registered container ship, CMA CGM Loire, ended up on McNabs Island this winter.

To volunteer ? you must register through Eventbrite.com. Volunteers will travel to the island from Murphys Cable Wharf on the Halifax Waterfront leaving at 9:30 AM or from A&M Sea Charters in Fisherman’s Cove in Eastern Passage leaving at 9:30 and 10:30 AM.
