Funding Announced for Regional Occupational Centre in Port Hawkesbury

Government is investing $50,000 for the Regional Occupational Centre in Port Hawkesbury to increase services for Nova Scotians with disabilities in the Strait Region.

“The Regional Occupational Centre in Port Hawkesbury brings people together to enhance and promote their abilities,” said Acadian Affairs and Francophonie Minister Michel Samson on behalf of Communities, Culture and Heritage Minister Tony Ince and Community Services Minister Joanne Bernard. “This funding will help more Nova Scotians with disabilities build more inclusive lives within the community.”

The centre provides vocational services, skills building and employment support for persons with disabilities. Its programs focus on the needs of the individuals they work with. They also work with businesses in the area.

The funding will help the Regional Occupational Centre Society with its $800,000 fundraising initiative, which also includes a federal contribution. The money will be used for renovations and enhancements, as well as expanding programs.

The province contributes more than $1 million annually to the Regional Occupational Centre Society for residential and adult day programs.
