Funding Announced for Richmond County Literacy Network

Government is investing $25,000 for the Richmond County Literacy Network to support residents in Richmond and Inverness counties.

Energy Minister Michel Samson, on behalf of Labour and Advanced Education Minister Kelly Regan, announced the funding for community outreach services, today, April 24.

“Some residents in these communities find it difficult to navigate the many provincial programs and services available to them,” said Mr. Samson. “This service will ensure they get the help and support they need, and I’m pleased we are able to provide this funding.”

With this funding, a community outreach and support worker will help older adults and others find and access government programs and services, such as housing and efficiency grants, continuing care support and disability services. The position was part of a pilot project.

“This is a valuable community-based service that has supported many people in the Strait Region,” said Richmond County Literacy Network Board chair Shirley McNamara. “We’re so pleased to have the support of the province so more residents can benefit.”

The Richmond County Literacy Network is a volunteer, community-based organization that offers adult learning, literacy and skills programming to the residents of Richmond County.
