Funding to Help Communities Address Flood Risks

The province announced funding today, June 22, to help four communities reduce the risk of flooding.

Through the Flood Risk Infrastructure Investment Program, the province is investing $305,101 in projects that identify or mitigate flood risks. Municipalities provide matching funding.

“We’ve seen recently the devastating effect of flooding in our communities and the impact this can have on families, businesses, and organizations,” said Municipal Affairs Minister Derek Mombourquette. “I am pleased to partner with municipalities to support their efforts to address flood risk.”

The municipalities receiving funding for 2018-19 are:
— Cape Breton Regional Municipality: $217,500 for Wash Brook floodwater containment and flood intensity mitigation
— Region of Queens Municipality: $39,107 for Liverpool coastal flooding mitigation study
— Village of Port Williams and Municipality of Kings: $17,207 for upgrade and extension of the Farnham Dyke
— Municipality of the District of West Hants: $31,287 for a flood water impact study for Three Mile Plains

The Flood Risk Infrastructure Investment Program, announced in 2014, is an application-based, annual program, that provides matching funding to municipalities for projects that identify or mitigate flood risks.
