The Nova Scotia Provincial Lotteries and Casino Corporation (NSPLCC) released its 2013-14 Financial Statements today, July 24, outlining its business results, focusing on the continued commitment to offer a gaming industry that is as socially responsible as possible.

Gaming industry profits go back to Nova Scotia communities to support important government programs and services.

The payment to province in 2013-14 was $123.3 million and $5.7 million was invested in responsible gambling programs, education, and treatment.

“We have long embraced social responsibility through leadership in responsible gambling and community outreach,” said NSPLCC’s president and CEO, Bob MacKinnon. “Along with our operators, Atlantic Lottery and Casino Nova Scotia, we are deeply committed to communities across the province, ensuring revenue from gaming supports good causes.”

While the payment to province is marginally higher than estimated, it is $4.6 million lower than the previous year as a result of lower revenue from video lottery. Casino revenue declined slightly from last year.

“With a mandate to deliver 100 per cent of profits from regulated gaming to help support important government programs and services, we are proud to be key contributors to the Nova Scotia economy,” said Mr. MacKinnon.

Nova Scotia’s responsible gaming industry generates approximately 538 direct jobs, has a network of more than 1,400 ticket and video lottery retailers who collectively earned $34.3 million in commissions.
