Get in the holiday spirit with the Halifax Christmas Tree Lighting

Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – Mayor Mike Savage and members of Regional Council are inviting residents to kick-off the holiday season by attending this weekend’s Halifax Christmas Tree Lighting. This free, family-friendly event will include the lighting of the tree, fireworks, a visit from Santa Claus, and entertainment by the Tyler Key Band and Octonauts™.

When: Saturday, Nov. 26, 6 – 7 p.m.

Where: Grand Parade Square, 1841 Argyle Street, Halifax

This year, the Halifax Christmas Tree will be decorated in red and white – Canada’s official colours – in honour of the upcoming 150th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada. FEED Nova Scotia will also be on-site to accept non-perishable food or cash donations for those in need this holiday season.

Please note that Argyle Street, from Duke Street to Carmichael Street, will be closed to vehicular traffic on Saturday, Nov.26, between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to accommodate this event. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to take caution when travelling in the downtown core due to the large number of people expected to attend the tree lighting.
