City considers access to every HRM pool, fitness facility, rink with a single pass

If you’ve ever wished for a single pass to access every pool, gym, rink, and fitness class the city offers, the city may be getting closer to making that happen.

The Halifax Regional Municipality is considering a “One Membership” model that would give residents full access to all municipally owned and operated recreation facilities, including larger multi-district hubs like the Canada Games Centre, Zatzman Sportsplex, and others across the region.

This move comes after a directive from Regional Council in August 2024 asking staff to explore ways to simplify and unify recreation access across the municipality. Right now, membership options vary by location, creating barriers for residents who want more flexibility.

To shape the future of the program, the city is asking for feedback from the public. A survey is now live through Shape Your City Halifax and will remain open until Monday, June 30. Residents are encouraged to share their opinions on pricing, access, and what matters most when choosing recreation services.

Whether you’re chasing laps in a pool or after-school programs for your kids, this new model could be a game-changer.
