Getting My Life Back

Back in November I wrote about being terrified here. I was scared medically, and if you are a man you might not want to read this post, as I am about to get graphic. I had written about bleeding for 19 days…well that bleeding started in October and well it has not really stopped. Some days it has been just spotting and others so heavy I have used more then 10 pads. Scary,eh. I thought my cancer was back. I finally got to the doctor and had a battery of tests, some were pretty invasive. Discovered the reason behind the blood was not cancer. Yes, I did a happy dance I was simply getting old.

Well the blood continued and my doctor and I discussed options and if you are having heavy periods, do talk to your doctor as there are several options out there. There are medications, IUD’s or even surgery as a way to lessen or even get rid of the blood.

Because I am 46 and really do not plan on more kids at my age I have chosen to have an endometrial ablation. What is that? Well they go in and remove the lining of my uterus, yet keeping all my organs intact.  What does it mean? Either I will stop bleeding completely (yeah!) or have very light cycles (could handle that as well.) It is a day procedure and basically it will give me my life back.

Did you know that heavy periods are so treatable these days? If you are over 40 and have the following symptoms you might want to talk to your doctor about your options:

  • Heavy bleeding ( are u using double coverage, and changing pads to frequently?)
  • Having to miss work because of your cycle.
  • Feeling exhausted, and like throwing up. ( me I have been tired for months now.)
  • Missing events because of your cycle.

If you are then do yourself a favor talk to your doctor. I know I am glad I did as now I get to get my life back.  I get to be healthy again.
