Gottingen Street bike lane improvements

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that improvements to the Gottingen Street bike lane, between Rainnie Drive and Brunswick Street, will take place as part of the Street Improvement Pilot Project.

The existing bike lane on this section of Gottingen Street will be converted into a two-way protected facility using concrete curbs and bollards to create a safer, more comfortable cycling experience.

The existing inbound vehicle slip lane (right-hand turn lane) on Gottingen Street, at the intersection of Brunswick Street, will also be converted into an extension of the bike lane and will allow for a safer pedestrian crossing. Right-hand vehicle turns will still be permitted at this intersection using the inbound lane.

Work will begin Monday, Nov. 23 and is expected to take two weeks to complete. Work will take place outside of peak-hours to reduce the impact on traffic.

The Street Improvement Pilot Project includes temporary features designed to improve the safety and comfort of those walking, rolling, cycling and driving.
