Government Announces Site for New Bridgetown School

The site has been selected and approved for a new, state-of-the-art P-12 school in Bridgetown.

The school will be built on the site of the existing Bridgetown Regional High School and adjacent land, as submitted by the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board and approved by Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Karen Casey.

It will replace two existing schools, Bridgetown Regional Elementary School and Bridgetown Regional High School.

“Students need modern education facilities to better prepare them to be tomorrow’s entrepreneurs, innovators and skilled workers,” said Premier Stephen McNeil. “I am pleased this new school is a step closer to becoming a reality in Bridgetown. This school will not only be a modern learning space for students, but also a centre for the whole community.”

Now that the site has been announced, a school steering team will be established to provide input to the project management and design team throughout the design phases of the project. The steering teams will work with Annapolis Valley Regional School Board and departments of Education and Early Childhood Development and Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal over the next several months to develop the design before construction begins.

“Government continues to move forward with capital projects to ensure our schools are safe, modern and well-equipped for the future,” said Ms. Casey. “I know the school steering team, departments, and board will work together during the next phase to ensure designs meet the needs of the students and community.”

The new school was announced in December 2013 as part of the 2014-15 Capital Plan.
