Residents of Tatamagouche and the North Shore will soon be able to experience cultural events, festivals and programs in a new arts centre, as part of the Creamery Square development.
Premier Stephen McNeil announced today, July 30, that government will provide support to help complete the Grace Jollimore Joyce Arts Centre.
The arts centre is the final stage of the Creamery Square development on Tatamagouche’s waterfront.
“Creamery Square is a destination for residents of Tatamagouche and the North Shore, and visitors. The new arts centre will add to Creamery Square’s potential to support growth in the area’s economy and cultural sector and attract visitors,” said Premier McNeil. “This is a great community project and we’re pleased to support its final phase.”
The departments of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism, and Communities, Culture and Heritage together are contributing $130,000 to the project.
“We’re very pleased to receive the provincial government’s contribution towards the performing arts centre. This new centre will further establish Creamery Square as a focal point on the North Shore,” said Floyd Tucker, president, Creamery Square Association. “We’re working hard to finish the project and we look forward to welcoming visitors to our community for events, festivals and more.”
The arts centre will have a foyer and theatre with seating for up to 160 people. It will provide a new venue to host indoor cultural performances, festivals, and events.
“Creamery Square has been more than 10 years in the making and has broad benefits, including as a showcase for local businesses and performers. Many residents have contributed to this project and I want to congratulate this community and area for its commitment,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Karen Casey, on behalf of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism Minister Michel Samson.
Creamery Square is home to a farmer’s market, community heritage museum, and boatbuilding centre. It also hosts outdoor music and theatre performances.
