Government Supports Sustainable Transportation in Sherbrooke

Government funding will be used to replace an existing boardwalk and improve signage and trails at Stonewall Leisure Park in Guysborough County.

Natural Resources Minister Lloyd Hines, on behalf of Energy Minister Michel Samson, announced today, Nov. 25, the Municipality of the District of Saint Marys will receive funding from the province’s sustainable transportation grant program, Connect2, and the Community Recreation Capital grant program.

“The families, young people and residents surrounding Sherbrooke will benefit hugely from upgrades to the park,” said Mr. Hines. “The province is proud to support a community-focused project that will encourage active living.”

With a $9,000 grant from Connect2, and a $4,500 Community Recreation Capital grant, the municipality will begin construction at the park.

“Funding from these provincial programs is essential for us in moving forward with important projects that support our active living strategy in Saint Marys,” said Warden Michael Mosher. “We are very pleased to work with the province in making these improvements to our community infrastructure.”

Connect2 is intended to create and promote active transportation options for trips of two kilometres or less between community hubs in rural and urban parts of the province. The Community Recreation Capital Grant program helps in the development of small-scale indoor and outdoor capital projects to create permanent facilities that encourage public participation in recreation.
