Grant Supports Seniors in Cumberland County

Funding was announced today, Jan.27, to support safety and security for seniors and create opportunities so they can become more active in their communities.

Cumberland North MLA Terry Farrell, on behalf of Leo Glavine, Minister of Seniors, announced a Senior Safety Grant for Cumberland County.

“It’s important we make sure our communities are open, safe and welcoming to everyone,” said Mr. Farrell. “It can be easy for older adults to feel isolated or disconnected, which is why adequate support and services are so essential.”

The Cumberland Senior Safety Society is receiving a $20,000 grant to support community engagement, increase awareness and provide education sessions that focus on the safety and health of seniors.

“This funding has been instrumental in our ability to affect change for members of society whose wellness is paramount when it comes to overcoming challenges and accessing resources,” said Elizabeth Cooke Sumbu, seniors’ advisory committee member. “We have been able to bridge the gap of information and the ability of seniors to access it where they are.”

Support from government helps inclusive programs like this improve safety and security for older adults and enables them to participate more fully in their communities.
