The weather was calm and the crowds were smiling for the 2016 St. Patrick’s Day parade in downtown Halifax.

At 11am this morning, the march was on. Starting from the Holy Cross Cemetery through South Park and winding down to the Grand Parade, spectators lined the streets to celebrate and cheer. Many sported Irish decor, from over sized Irish hats and ties, to beads and glasses.

Floats ranged from businesses sporting clovers and banners, to fire engines and bubble machines, most sporting Irish themed decor. Marching groups included dancers, baton twirlers and more.   And no St. Patrick’s Day parade would be complete without the 2 pipe and drum bands, which included the Halifax Fire Union Fire Club Pipes and Drums. Both bands blasting their way down the streets to the delight of onlookers.

Although St. Patrick’s Day isn’t officially until this coming Thursday, having the parade over a weekend ensured more people had the chance to enjoy the celebration as well as keep traffic disruptions more reasonable.

Halifax Police both took part in the parade as well as dealth with traffic stoppage along the route.
