Guided hikes offer glimpse of NS trails

Now for a third year in a row, Hike Nova Scotia and its partners offer a series of guided hikes in September and October. The hikes are designed to get more people out being physically active on a variety of NS trails.

“There are 15 hikes that take place all over the province. They highlight some beautiful Nova Scotia trails and hopefully will entice people to get out and sample those trails,” says Debra Ryan, Hike Nova Scotia President. -Cole Harbour Heritage Park Hike, Cole Harbour, September 11, 10 a.m., partner: Cole Harbour Parks & Trails Association.

-Sugar Loaf Trail Hike, Sugar Loaf, between Cape North and Bay St. Lawrence, September 13, 1 p.m., partner: Hike the Highlands Festival.

-Le vieux chemin du Cap Rouge Trail Hike, Cape Breton Highlands National Park, September 16, 1:30 p.m., partner: Hike the Highlands Festival.

-Blue Mountain Birch Cove Lakes Wilderness Area Hike, Near Kingswood in HRM, Septtember 19, 1:30 p.m., partner: Halifax North West Trails Association.

-Earltown Lakes Guided Nature Walk, Earltown, September 21, 6 p.m., partner: MoveOn Colchester and Take Me Outside Week.

-Rogart Mountain Trail Power Hike, Earltown, September 23, 6 p.m., partners: Truro Trailblazers, MoveOn Colchester and Take Me Outside Week.

-Full Moon Hike at Freshwater Lake, Cape Breton Highlands National Park, September 23, 9 p.m., partners: Cape Breton Highlands National Park and Take Me Outside Week.

-Card Lake Colors Hike and Leave No Trace workshop, Card Lake Provincial Park (near Chester), September 26, 10 a.m., partner: Chester Recreation and Parks and Take Me Outside Week.

-Delaps Cove Wilderness Trail, Annapolis County, September 26, 2:30 p.m., partner: Annapolis County Recreation.

-Acadian Trail Celtic-Colours Hike, Cape Breton Highlands National Park, October 13, 10:30 a.m., partner: Cape Breton Highlands National Park and Celtic-Colours International Festival.

-Branch Pond Trail Celtic-Colours Hike, Cape Breton Highlands National Park, October 14, 10:30 a.m., partner: Cape Breton Highlands National Park and Celtic-Colours International Festival.

-Franey Trail Celtic-Colours Hike, Cape Breton Highlands National Park, October 15, 10:30 a.m., partner: Cape Breton Highlands National Park and Celtic-Colours International Festival.

-Six Mile Brook Trail, Millsville (near Scotsburn), October 17, 1 p.m., partner: Cape to Cape committee of the Pictou County Trails Association.

-Gaff Point Hike, Near Kingsburg (Lunenburg County), October 17, 10 a.m., partner: South Shore Hiking Club.

-Nictaux Falls Hike, Annapolis County, October 17, 1 p.m., partner: Annapolis County Recreation.
