Halifax, Bedford, Waverley, and Clayton Park: Four Thursday road closures to plan around

Between Halifax, Bedford, Waverley and Clayton Park, HRM and Halifax Water have four separate stretches of road torn up or shut down over the next several days. None of it lasts long, but if any of these are on your regular route, worth a look before you head out.

Highway 111 ramp closes overnight for Windsor Street Exchange work

Crews are realigning three street lights near the inbound Robie Street off-ramp on Highway 111 as part of the ongoing Windsor Street Exchange project. The ramp closes from 7 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday, and anyone heading toward the exchange won’t be able to get off there during that window. A detour routes drivers through the Highway 111 and Windsor Street intersection instead.

Barrington Street takes the bigger hit here. Starting west of Africville Road, it drops to a single outbound lane for the full stretch of the closure, so give yourself extra time if you’re coming through that corridor overnight.

Kearney Lake Road down to one lane Thursday

Road repair work between Bedford Highway and Dunbrack Street will squeeze Kearney Lake Road down to one lane Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s part of the road maintenance work HRM has been chipping away at under its 2026-2030 Strategic Plan. One sidewalk along that stretch closes for the day, but the other stays open, so pedestrians aren’t shut out entirely.

Waverley Road closed all weekend for retaining wall work

This is the longest closure of the bunch. Waverley Road between civic 1291 and 1335 shuts to through traffic from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday while crews build a retaining wall, install guardrail and relocate a utility pole. If you live in that stretch, you can still get in and out from either end, and emergency vehicles will have access the whole time. It’s just through traffic that’s blocked for the weekend.

Halifax Water swapping two manholes on Heathside Crescent

Halifax Water is replacing two manholes near 6 Heathside Crescent on Thursday, roughly 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The street stays open to local traffic only between Parkland Drive and Blue Thistle Road, with detours and traffic control staff on site to keep things moving. Sidewalks are unaffected, and Halifax Water says the work won’t interrupt water service in the area. Worth remembering too, speed fines double in active work zones.
