Halifax Convention Centre Announces Local Program


The Halifax Convention Centre announced today, Oct. 12, the introduction of a local program to showcase Nova Scotia food, culture and experiences to national and international visitors.

“We want to inspire our guests to get outside of our centre, into the streets and spaces of our province and explore all that Nova Scotia has to offer,” said Carrie Cussons, president and CEO of the Halifax Convention Centre. “We’re proud to be working with local suppliers and partners to encourage our guests to discover Nova Scotia.”

The local program includes three key components:
— local flavour
— showcasing Nova Scotia experiences
— a pop-up program.

“Nova Scotia offers visitors a variety of culinary, cultural and entertainment attractions that will leave a lasting impression and encourage return visits,” said MLA Hugh MacKay, on behalf of Geoff MacLellan, Minister of Business. “By showcasing what Nova Scotia has to offer within their facility, the Halifax Convention Centre team and their partners will help contribute to our province’s continued economic growth.”

The team is incorporating Nova Scotia flavours into their menu by working with local suppliers including Riverview Herbs, Meadowbrook Farms, Acadian Maple, Harbour Cheese and more.

“We’re home to some of the best food and beverage producers, outdoor adventures and natural wonders in the world,” said Halifax Mayor Mike Savage. “Any visitor who gets a chance to experience our local treasures first hand will want to come back time and time again.”

The centre’s pop-up program will be managed through a partnership with Taste of Nova Scotia, who will work with local suppliers to showcase their products during national and international conventions.

“We’re thrilled to be working with the Halifax Convention Centre team to deliver an authentic taste of Nova Scotia to their delegates,” said Emily Haynes, executive director of Taste of Nova Scotia. “Nova Scotia has a rich culinary history and this program provides a great opportunity to feature the local experts who bring it to life.”

The centre’s state-of-the-art digital signage network will also feature Nova Scotia photography and video, encouraging guests to explore the community and culture outside the venue.

The Halifax Convention Centre is part of the Nova Centre, a one-million square-foot, mixed-used development including a hotel, financial tower and retail space. It is the largest integrated development project in the province’s history. The funding of the convention centre is shared between three levels of government, totaling $169.2 million.
