Road safety was a team effort this past weekend after calls from concerned motorists led Halifax District RCMP to arrest seven impaired drivers.
Between Friday evening and Sunday night, RCMP caught an impaired driver at a check point on St.
Margaret’s Bay Rd. and another in Sackville after the motorist was stopped for speeding. The remaining five arrests came as a result of phone calls from concerned citizens. One of those calls resulted in the apprehension of an impaired driver who had a small child in their vehicle. Another call resulted in the arrest of a driver who was impaired by drugs, and led officers to determine the vehicle he was driving had been stolen. All seven individuals are facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
The message remains clear: driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is a crime and puts everyone in danger. Halifax District RCMP continue to be encouraged by the number of citizens helping to play a role in community and road safety. If you happen to spot a suspected impaired driver, please call 911.
