Halifax District RCMP were kept busy this past weekend conducting numerous roadside checkpoints and apprehending impaired drivers.

Throughout the evening of August 23rd, and early morning of August 24th, RCMP apprehended nine impaired drivers; four were stopped at checkpoints, two impaired drivers were as a result of calls from the public and three from proactive police patrols.

‘Road safety is a priority for the RCMP and we are committed to keeping roads safe for everyone,’ says Cpl. Greg Church, Halifax District RCMP. ‘That is why we are on the road 24/7, conducting checkpoints and encouraging the public to call 9-1-1 if they believe someone is driving impaired.’

Every road user has a responsibility in making our roadways safer and the Halifax District RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance this weekend. Impaired driving is one of the major causes of serious injuries and death on our roads and the RCMP continues to have a strong presence on Nova Scotia’s roadways to stop alcohol and drug impaired drivers year round.
