Halifax District RCMP arrest man after bomb threats, Porters Lake, N.S.

Halifax District RCMP arrested a 70-year-old man after bomb threats were received. At approximately 8:00 p.m., Halifax District RCMP, Halifax Fire and Emergency Health Services responded to a report of a bomb threat directed at the Buck & Near Dollar Store in Porters Lake.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., Halifax District RCMP, Halifax Fire and Emergency Health Services responded to a report of a bomb threat directed at the Buck & Near Dollar Store in Porters Lake.

As a precaution the employees left the store prior to police arrival. Subsequent investigation led RCMP to a mature adults complex in Porters Lake after the man made a second threat via 911 he was going to blow up his own apartment within the senior’s complex. Approximately 25 people were evacuated as a precaution while RCMP spoke to the suspect and arrested him inside his residence without incident. No bombs were located and the residents were allowed to return to their apartments almost immediately.

The Porters Lake man is being held in custody and is facing charges of uttering threats. He is expected to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court in the morning. The investigation is continuing.
