Halifax District RCMP, with assistance from the Enfield RCMP Detachment and the Nova Scotia Department of Environment, have arrested a 61-year-old Enfield man for operating a vessel while impaired.
On Saturday, July 18, RCMP and Department of Environment conservation officers were conducting inland water patrols on Shubenacadie Grand Lake when they stopped a pontoon vessel for a routine safety check. Upon stopping the vessel, officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol on the 61-year-old driver, who also showed signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and taken to the Enfield RCMP Detachment where he provided breath samples that were nearly twice the legal limit.
The 61-year-old male was charged with Impaired Driving and released from custody the next morning. He is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on September 16, 2015.
RCMP wish to remind Nova Scotians that consuming alcohol while operating a vessel is still impaired driving, and fines and penalties are the same as driving a motor vehicle on the road while impaired. Nova Scotia RCMP also reminds the public that all boaters must possess a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card when operating a marine vessel. Failure to produce a valid operator’s card when asked can result in a fine of $250.
