Halifax District RCMP investigate attempted child abduction, Lawrencetown, N.S.

Halifax District RCMP is investigating an attempted child abduction that occurred earlier this morning.

At approximately 7:45 a.m. Halifax District RCMP were called to Atlantic View Elementary School to investigate an attempted child abduction that occurred at approximately 7 a.m.

at a bus stop near Maple Dr. and Highway 207.

Preliminary investigation determined that a 10-year-old boy was waiting at the bus stop when an east-bound black pick-up truck went past him and then stopped at the community centre. A male then got into the passenger side of the truck, which then drove to the Lawrencetown Grocery Store directly across from the bus stop. The passenger, a white male believed to be in his twenties, got out of the truck and waved at the boy to come over. The boy pretended to ignore the man. The driver of the truck, a male also believed to be in his twenties, stepped out of the truck and yelled at the boy: ‘come over here and get in my truck.’ The boy then ran to a nearby relative’s home, and then home to tell his father what had happened. The boy and his father then went to the school to report the incident to the principal.

The suspect vehicle is described as a 2003-era black Chevrolet pick-up truck with a red pinstripe running down the side. It has a red fuel door, five amber marking lights on the roof, and has a broken tailgate handle.

If you have any additional information on this incident, please Halifax District RCMP at 902-244-7208. Members of the public can also contact Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS ( 8477), or by texting TIP202 + your message to `CRIMES`(274637) or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca.
