Halifax District RCMP lay impaired driving, kidnapping charges, East Preston, N.S.

Halifax District RCMP has laid charges following an incident in East Preston yesterday.

Just before noon on March 21, a vehicle went off the road on Highway 7 in East Preston. Two citizens who witnessed the collision assisted the lone male driver by helping him out of the vehicle. A female motorist passing by also stopped to offer her assistance. Her two-year-old child was in a car seat in the back of the vehicle. The male driver jumped into the female’s vehicle without her permission and demanded to be driven to Sobeys in Cole Harbour. The female became fearful and drove the man to his requested destination. Once he left the vehicle, she called police immediately. Neither the female or child was injured.

RCMP officers responded and took 39-year-old Sherlock Jaydee Downey of East Preston into custody without incident. He is facing several charges, including:

-Impaired Driving

-Kidnapping

-Mischief

-Taking a Vehicle Without Consent

Downey will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court later today.
