Halifax District RCMP Police Dog tracks down thieves, Cole Harbour, N.S.

Halifax District RCMP Police Service Dog (PSD) Baylee tracked down thieves who had been stealing money and personal items from several motor vehicles in Forest Hills on Saturday.

On Saturday, May 16th at approximately 4 a.m., Halifax District RCMP officers called in PSD Baylee to assist with a number of complaints involving suspicious persons entering parked cars on Arklow Dr. and several other streets in the area.

PSD Baylee wasted no time in picking up the suspects’ scents and guided her handler and investigators to Fieldwood Cir. where they apprehended one suspect hiding behind a car in a private driveway. Baylee quickly returned to the chase and led RCMP to the front door of a dwelling on Chameau Cres. where officers arrested a second suspect. A 17-year-old male from Cole Harbour and a 15-year-old male from Cherry Brook were taken into custody without incident. They were later released from police custody on strict conditions and will be appearing in Youth Court at a later date.

Although PSD Baylee was not required to use force during the arrests, she was given a pat on the back for taking a bite out of crime.
