At 7:54 p.m., Cole Harbour RCMP officers and a Halifax Regional Police K9 unit responded to a lost hiker complaint.

Two women had entered the woods for a hike on River Drive in Lake Echo before becoming separated. A 33-year-old female from Dartmouth was unable to find her way out of the woods before darkness fell.

Officers were able to hear the hiker in the distance but had trouble locating her due to the thick bush and numerous lakes in the area.

Halifax Ground Search and Rescue attended the scene and she was located by RCMP and the K9 officer at approximately 11:30 p.m. The lost hiker, who suffered only minor scrapes and bruises, was escorted out of the thick woods and reunited with her friend at approx 30 minutes after midnight.
