Halifax District RCMP tangle with a snapping reptile, Halifax, N.S.

Halifax District RCMP investigate a medley of complaints from motorists as traffic slows to a snails, well actually a turtles pace.

On Monday, September 22nd at approximately 12:50 p.m.

, officers from Cole Harbour responded to the intersection of Main Street at Forest Hills to deal with a rapidly developing scene of significant traffic congestion. Attending officers witnessed a large angry snapping turtle making its way very slowly along the shoulder of the roadway.

Police, using available non-conventional animal control equipment, aka the police cruiser’s tool and supply box from the trunk, were able to safely trap the reptile and transport it to Cranberry Lake where it was released from police custody. Although traffic had been moving at a turtle’s pace, it quickly returned to a normal flow in the affected area.
