Halifax District RCMP with public help nab New Year’s Eve impaired drivers, Halifax, N.S.

Halifax District RCMP responded to numerous calls from the public of possible impaired drivers.

Halifax District RCMP were out in full force patrolling the streets and roadways this New Year’s Eve and with the assistance of many concerned citizens located, arrested and charged several drivers who were driving drunk.

Four drivers were charged with impaired driving with blood alcohol readings ranging from 130 mg% to 280 mg%. A reading of 280 mg% is more than three times the legal limit. One female driver in Cole Harbour was charged with refusal, and another driver in Lower Sackville was given a 24 hour suspension. All charged persons were released from custody and will appear in court at later dates.

Halifax District RCMP extend a sincere thank you to everyone who called in to report suspected impaired drivers. It is obvious citizens throughout the district heard our holiday call; ‘the RCMP encourage citizens to keep our roads safe by calling 911 if you believe someone is driving while impaired.’

Well done Halifax, have a safe and healthy New Year!
