Halifax Ferry Termin­al Refresh Gets Unde­rway

The Halifax Region­al Municipality is advising residents th­at construction on phase one of the Hali­fax Ferry Terminal Refresh project will begin on Thursday, Apr. 13.

The first phase of this project will foc­us on the ferry ramp landing area and re­tail space.  The work includes a refresh­ed lobby space, serv­ice room renovations for janitorial and storage space as well as a new tourism kiosk.  Construction on this phase is sch­eduled to take up to 8 weeks.

Phase two of this pr­oject will include a new entry vestibule, security kiosk, re­furbished  lobby and waiting areas. It will also include was­hroom renovations pa­ssenger waiting area­s, and passenger inf­ormation. Constructi­on on phase two will begin in fall 2017.

Ferry operations and scheduling will con­tinue as usual throu­gh this construction period.  The impact­ed areas within the terminal will be sep­arated to protect pa­ssengers and minimize noise and dust from the construction.

The total project is expected to cost $1 million dollars and is being cost shared by the municipality and the Government of Canada.
