Halifax man charged in historical sexual assault investigation
Investigators with the Sexual Assault Investigative Team of the Integrated Criminal Investigative Division have charged a man in relation to historical sexual assaults that occurred in Dartmouth.
Police received a report on January 4, 2019 that a man had sexually assaulted a child known to him on multiple occasions over the course of a three-year period.
We are not releasing any further details to protect the identity of the victim.
Investigators arrested 58-year-old James Michael Snow at an address in Halifax yesterday without incident. He is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of:
- Sexual Assault (S.271 CC)
- Sexual Interference (S.151 CC)
- Invitation to Sexual Touching (S.152 CC)
Sexual assault investigations are complex. As part of our victim-centered, trauma-informed approach to sexualized violence, we work closely with victims, and in the case of children, their parents or guardians, to ensure they’re willing to proceed with a police investigation. Police must also ensure the victim’s privacy is upheld and well-being is fully considered.
