Following recent community consultation sessions hosted by Halifax RCMP and representatives from the Halifax Board of Police Commissioners, the Halifax RCMP has determined their operational priorities for 2014/15.

‘After many questions, conversations and suggestions at our sessions, certain themes were apparent,’ said C/Supt. Roland Wells, Officer in Charge of Halifax RCMP. ‘We asked people to come out and share their views. By hearing directly from the communities we serve, we were able to determine our way forward.’

Halifax RCMP’s operational priorities for this year include:

Road Safety with a focus on:

· education
· strategic enforcement based on the analysis of crime trends
· awareness with the goal of reducing serious injury/fatal collisions and distracted/dangerous drivers

Cyber Crime with a focus on

· education
· improving public awareness on emerging trends
· prevention through partnerships with the business community

Crime Prevention/Reduction with a focus on

· analyzing crime data leading to the strategic deployment of policing resources
· the creation of the Hybrid Hub model – a community-led, evidence-based, intervention model for youth

The Halifax RCMP and Halifax Board of Police Commissioners would also like to take this opportunity to thank citizens who came out to participate at the sessions throughout Halifax and on Twitter.
