Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency adds high-tech tool to life-saving toolbox

Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency (HRFE) is the first municipal fire department in Atlantic Canada to embrace a highly advanced thermal-imaging drone protocol to greatly improve firefighter safety and help save lives.

Twenty HRFE firefighters are undergoing intense hands-on training this month that will arm them with the latest in drone (unmanned aerial vehicle) technology.

This training and technology will put the municipal fire service on the cutting edge in responding to everything from search-and-rescue operations, identifying gas/chemical leaks, to quickly assessing imminent danger without risking lives to do so.

HRFE is providing the media with a rare peek into how this high-tech tool will change the face of firefighting in the municipality.

What: Drone training media availability
When: Friday, Dec. 9 at 10 a.m.
Where: HRFE training facility behind Station 7 (Knightsridge) – 45 Knightsridge Drive, Clayton Park

Media will observe trainees in the classroom environment as well as performing outdoor test runs of the recently purchased drones.

Interview opportunities will be available with industry trainers, firefighters, and the division commander in charge of the drone pilot project.

B-roll footage will be available for news organizations interested in seeing the amazing video quality recorded by the drones.
