Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency lifts ban on open-air burning

Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency is advising residents the open-air burning ban imposed on Tuesday, Aug. 2, is now lifted.

In the majority of cases, Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency will mirror the level of restriction on open-air burning declared by the province (www.novascotia.ca/burnsafe). While the municipality can never assert a level of restriction lower than what the province has declared, the fire service has the ability to bemore restrictive than the province if it’s warranted.

In the case of the Aug. 2 ban, the fire service exercised that right to impose a stricter ban than the province. The Department of Natural Resources followed suit later in the week by implementing its own ban.

The municipality and the province are again in agreement over the level of burning that should be allowed in the Halifax region at this time.
