Halifax Regional Police are warning citizens after thefts from motor vehicles in Dartmouth.
Since March 14, police have received at least six reports of items being taken from unattended vehicles in the area of Joan Eleanor Drive in Portland Estates. In most cases, attractive objects were left in plain sight and in some cases, vehicles were left unlocked. Most happened in the evening hours.
Thefts from vehicles are usually crimes of opportunity. Visible items tempt would-be thieves. Citizens should remove all items from their vehicles (purses, tablets & laptops, satellite radios or other equipment that appears valuable). If it is absolutely necessary to leave items in a vehicle, they should be locked in the trunk out of plain sight before arriving at your destination.
