Halifax Regional Police issues BOLO for volunteers

Halifax Regional Police is issuing a BOLO (be on the lookout) for qualified Victim Services and Youth Program adult and youth volunteers.

If you are interested in volunteering in a police environment, check out these exciting Fall 2009 opportunities and send in your application by September 15, 2009.

Are you caring and supportive?

Victim Services requires On-Scene Response volunteers for after-hours victim support after an incident has occurred.

As a volunteer, you would provide emotional support, case information and referral options to victims of crime or serious trauma.

While most clients of the department are victims of domestic violence, others may have experienced robberies, assaults, fires, serious accidents, etc.

Are you encouraging and a leader?

The Halifax Regional Police Youth Program (HRPYP) has opportunities for adult leaders, 19 years and older, who enjoy working with young people.

You would be involved in planning and executing events and activities, providing support and guidance and encouraging the youth to realize their potential.

Are you 14-19 years old and looking to have fun and build leadership skills?

The Halifax Regional Police Youth Program (HRPYP) includes a variety of activities that are educational, community service related or just plain fun. Some of these activities include presentations by guest speakers, field trips, camping trips, traffic control, Police Week, fingerprinting clinics, McGruff appearances, bike rodeos, bike patrols, parades, movie nights and beach outings.

How do you get involved?

For additional information and applications for Victim Services and Youth Program Adult Leaders go to: www.halifax.ca/Police/getinvolved.html.

The HRP Youth Program website and applications for youth, aged 14-19, can be found at: www.policeyouth.com.

Please call 490-6976 if you would like to speak to HRP’s Coordinator of Volunteer Programs about any of these volunteer opportunities.

Completed applications can be faxed to 490-6363.

Appropriate training is provided for all Halifax Regional Police volunteer programs.
