Halifax Regional Police responded to four separate impaired driving calls overnight involving three men ages 28, 29 and 56 and a 20-year-old female all of who face charges. All four incidents involved collisions.

One male had a blood alcohol reading of over twice the legal limit while another male had readings that were three times the legal limit. The third male was charged with refusal, assaulting a police officer and was issued a summary offence ticket under the Cannabis Act after a quantity of Cannabis was located in the vehicle.

One of the collisions involved a marked police cruiser which was stopped to assist a broken down motorist and was parked with it’s emergency lights activated when it was struck from behind. The officer was able to exit the vehicle and arrest the driver who was determined to be intoxicated. The officer was later transported to hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries and released.

Officers in Dartmouth are currently on scene of a fifth impaired driving complaint where the investigation is in it’s very early stages and no decision on charges has been made.

Impaired drivers pose a risk to pedestrians, other drivers and themselves. Halifax Regional Police would like to remind the public If they suspect a driver is impaired please call 911 to report it.
