Halifax to Host North American Agricultural Marketing Officials

Provincial Release:
Nova Scotia's success in agricultural marketing will be on display when about 50 representatives from Canada and the United States arrive in Halifax this weekend for the North American FAgricultural Marketing Officials(NAAMO)conference.

The annual event, hosted by the province, runs from July 10-14 at the Marriott Harbourfront, Halifax.

This year's theme is NAAMO by the Sea – A Maritime Marketplace. The agenda deals with slow food and slow money movements, as well as cultural food, heritage food, and a pride of place celebration in marketing and branding as it relates to economic development.

"We are privileged to host NAAMO in Nova Scotia this year, as it is an opportunity to showcase the work we are doing to enhance the value and competitiveness of agriculture and positively effect our communities and continue to grow the economy," said John MacDonell, Minister of Agriculture. "With a number of marketing initiatives, including Select Nova Scotia and the Catch Seafood Festival, our programs and services support the goals of Nova Scotia farmers."

Special guests at this year's event are Edward Avalos, under secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs, United States Department of Agriculture and Carl Honoré, a leading promoter of the Slow Movement and author of In Praise of Slowness: How a World Wide Movement is Challenging the Cult of Speed.

Mr. Honoré, who is delivering the keynote address, will also take part in a public session on Monday, July 12, at 1 p.m. His speech will explain the broader context of the Slow Movement.

Registration for the public event is required at a cost of $20. To register, contact the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture office at 902-893-2293 or email info@nsfa-fane.ca
