Halifax Transit Suspends Service for Remainder of the Day

Wednesday, March 18, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Due to the continuing severe weather and poor road conditions, Halifax Transit has decided to suspend bus, ferry and Access-A-Bus services for the remainder of the day. All service is expected to resume on a regular schedule Thursday, March 19.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for much of Nova Scotia. Snowfall has already surpassed 40 centimetres in many areas and it is still snowing with blowing snow causing poor visibility. Police and other agencies are continuing to advise residents to stay off the roads, if they can.

Transit supervisors will monitor the weather and road conditions later tonight and tomorrow. Some routes may need to operate on a detoured snow plan on Thursday. Updates on individual routes will be shared via @hfxtransit on Twitter, which is streamed online at http://www.halifax.ca/transit.

Halifax Transit and the municipality understand that suspending transit service may be an inconvenience to some residents; however, the safety of passengers and Halifax Transit operators must be our top priority. Keeping the buses off the roads will also help crews properly clear main arterial routes.
